Ethics and Yoga: General meeting of the YDST - welcome to all
When its comes to discussing ethical conduct in yoga, we in the modern west are faced with a number of problems. Unable to look back for answers to questions never faced by yoga before, we are forced to find new answers. For example, can Bikram Choudry copyright a series of ancient postures? The more important question underlying this action being; how can Bikram be acting ethically in a Western legal context and still be seemingly acting unethically in a yogic context? Is the discrepancy between the ethical nature of his actions really just contextual? Can neither viewpoint claim to be absolutely right? How should a yogi behave in a world which adheres to ethical standards that seem to him/her un-yogic? Which leads us toward the central question in this month’s general meeting; are there yogic ethics and if so, who says so; if not, should there be?
Please join us for several brief lectures and open discussions on the topic of ethics and modern yoga.
